I had the misfortune to start going grey when I was in high school. Now, only a week away from my 30th birthday, I realize that I can’t remember I time when I didn’t color my hair. Over the course of the last 12 years, I’ve gone through several different types of home hair color – and had a few blissful years that I could afford to have my hair colored professionally. After our wedding, I chopped my hair off (in the traditional post-wedding-chop) and decided I could color my own hair again because it was short.
I always hated how brassy my hair would look after using permanent color, so I spent the last two years using Clairol Natural Instincts, which is semi-permanent. I loved it, but had to recolor CONSTANTLY, which I detested.
And then … *cue angels singing* … I decided to try John Frieda Precision Foam Color. Unlike other home hair color, which is goopy and uneven and difficult to apply, this is a very user-friendly foam. The foam ensures that the color is evenly applied without any stray hair color drips on the bathroom floor. And the color? It’s perfect. At the risk of sounding like a commercial, the color is rich, multi-dimensional, shimmering and natural. I always thought that, once my hair grew long again, I would go back to the salon to have my hair professionally colored. But to be honest, I’ll probably never go back. John Frieda Precision Foam Color is so easy, painless and perfect that there’s absolutely no reason to spend the money.
As far as home hair color goes, it’s on the pricier side at around $11.99. But eliminating all those pricey trips to the salon? Priceless.
