The theme of the August Birchbox is “Lighten Up,” which I’m not sure I understand. I suppose they’re products to help you get through the end of summer? It’s not like it matters as I’m not sure beauty samples really need to have a theme… especially if they’re awesome!
And awesome this box is! This is the first month I’ve seen Laura Mercier appear in Birchbox and you’ll be shocked to hear that I actually LOVE the perfume they included!
Here’s what I received in my August Birchbox:
ModelCo Shimmer Bronzer ($22) – Full size product! – Truthfully, I probably won’t use this product, but I can’t deny that it’s a great one. I’ve just given up on any semblance of a summer tan this year and I’m not much for faking it. The bronzer looks a little dark for it to appear natural on me, but I may hold on to this one until next summer.
Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Creme – This is a giant sample! According to the card that Birchbox sent this product helps to fade discoloration and boosts radiance. I don’t think I’m having any issues with discoloration, but I can always use a radiance boost!
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – This is an “extra” that Birchbox threw in with the Tone Perfecting creme.
Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume – I know that I normally don’t like perfume samples but this one smells SO good. Also, I’m intrigued by the name, “not a perfume.” Part of the reason I like this perfume is that it’s allergen-free (I recently detailed how I’m allergic to “scents”), and the scent has one single note of Cetalox. I didn’t know what Cetalox was, but this blog post discusses it in-depth (and also explains why it’s “not a perfume”).
Supergoop Forever Young Hand Cream with Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF40 – While I’ve tried quite a few Supergoop products, this is one product I haven’t tried and didn’t know they carried. I use hand creams constantly and love that this one comes packed with SPF40. (I don’t think any of the other hand creams I currently use has SPF at all.)
Hello Breathspray in Pink Grapfruit Mint – Full size product! – This is a “lifestyle extra” that Birchbox added to the box. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m curious about the combination of grapefruit and mint.
Overall: Though none of these products immediately jumped out at me when I opened the box, I ultimately decided that this is a great box. It included two full-size products, and the retail price of the bronzer alone more than paid for the cost of the box. I can’t wait to dig into the Laura Mercier product and I’ll let you know how radiant it makes me look. Supergoop is a great brand, and I can’t wait to wear the perfume. I only wish they had sent the bronzer a little earlier in the summer. With this crazy cool weather Chicago has been having my mind has already jumped ahead to the fall.
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box. A subscription costs $10 per month and boxes typically include five deluxe samples each month, though receiving a full size product or two isn’t uncommon.
