I don’t always get around to reviewing the Julep Maven box I reeive each month, but I wanted to share this box because it came packed with a brand new product from Julep. This is usually one of my favorite boxes to open because they always send such fun nail polish colors and lately they’ve been throwing in a bunch of different beauty products as well. Some of the beauty products have been awesome (I love their lipstick!) and some have been not so great (I fully agree with the I Have a Degree In This assessment of the new DD Cream). Still, I love the variety they send and having the opportunity to try out new products!
A monthly Julep Maven subscription box costs $19.99, which tends to be a steal because they so throw many items into the box! This month I received four products. Here’s what I received in my Julep Boho Glam Box:
I should start off by saying that I wasn’t much of a fan of the Julep California Coast Collection. The colors just aren’t my cup of tea. However, I wanted to receive a box this month so that I could try out the new Beach Tonic Dry Body Oil, which costs $23 normally. I tried out the orange-ish color above, Karen, and on the right skin tone I think it would look lovely. With my skin it falls kind of flat. I think it would be a great color if you’re either darker than me or lighter than me, but on me this color just didn’t pop and I felt like it kind of blended into my skin. I have no intention of ever wearing the other color, Faye, which is described as a “liquid bronze shimmer.” (Anyone want it? I’ll be happy to send Faye to the first person that leaves a comment. Seriously.)
OK, so the polish was a bit of a bust this month, but I knew that before my order ever shipped. I chose these colors.
While I knew ahead of time that I wasn’t really going to like this month’s nail polish colors from Julep I still wanted to get a box because I was intrigued by the new Beach Tonic Dry Body Oil (and it cost me less to purchase the box than to order this product alone). I have never tried a body oil before and wanted to see how it compares to my usual Aveeno moisturizer.
I have been using this dry body oil for a couple of days now and while I think it is good for summer I am not sure I would want to use it year-round. I don’t find the product to be greasy, however, it does seem to take longer to dry than a regular lotion. This isn’t a problem when I’m wearing tanks and shorts, but long sleeves and pants could be trickier. The dry oil does a good job of moisturizing, though I did a little bit of research to see if it does a better job than lotion and the results are decidedly mixed. I found this Total Beauty message board where someone said they’ve had the best results applying body oil before lotion, so I may try that. One huge plus for the Beach Tonic Dry Body Oil is that it smells absolutely amazing! It was definitely love at first smell for me. The scent is described as being a combination of citrus and floral, and I definitely think it smells delicious.
Finally, Julep threw some Green Tea Facial Blotting Papers into my box this month. This item doesn’t even appear to be for sale on the Julep website yet! In the summer you can never have enough of these papers. I stash them everywhere!
Overall I’m happy I received this month’s Julep Boho Glam Box, even though I’m not a fan of the nail polish colors. For $19.99 I received a box containing approximately $55 worth of products, which isn’t bad at all, and I got to try out a brand new product that I’m going to try to regularly work into my beauty routine. No complaints here!
(I’ve got to admit: I’m really looking forward to the return of darker shades of nail polish. That’s definitely more my thing! Bring on fall!)
