Though I haven’t been talking as much about subscription boxes this holiday season, they’re still one of my favorite things ever. Don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get back to talking about them non-stop in the New Year. Until then, let’s focus on Christmas and how subscription boxes can make a fantastic Christmas present. In fact, there are so many different types of subscription boxes that you can easily find one for everyone on your list.

One of the great things about giving a subscription box as a gift is that you can really wait until the absolute last minute to purchase the subscription since the earliest your recipient will begin receiving their gift is January. Just toss a little note in an envelope letting the recipient know to expect your gift soon and you’ll be good to go!

Here are my picks for the best subscription boxes to gift to your loved ones:

Birchbox and Klutchclub

Pick up a Birchbox subscription for your office BFF so the two of you can compare each month’s haul over lunch. A subscription to Birchbox costs $10 per month and includes 4-5 deluxe beauty samples. Similarly, you and your favorite running buddy can compare each month’s KlutchClub box while you’re out jogging or hitting the trails. A KlutchClub subscription typically costs $18 per month, but through the month of December they are running promotions on gift subscriptions. KlutchClub delivers the latest innovations in health and wellness each month.

Julep Maven & Nicely Noted

Julep is one of my favorite nail polish brands. They come up with a selection of new colors each month and sell them as part of their Julep Maven subscription. A subscription costs $19.99 per month and for that she’ll receive three new polishes each month and Julep normally throws in a couple of surprises as well. I may be odd in this regard but my best friends live nowhere near me so I love the idea of getting them a Nicely Noted subscription, so that we can improve/increase our handwritten communication because let’s face it – there are few things better than getting a letter in the mail! A subscription to Nicely Noted costs $18 per month and for that she will receive 3 different letterpress notecards along with pre-stamped envelopes.

Citrus Lane and BabbaCo

I’ve given out many Citrus Lane subscriptions over the past 18 months or so and heard nothing but rave reviews from the recipients. You can customize the Citrus Lane box you receive each month so that it will come stuffed with clothing, toys, and accessories appropriate for the age of your child. A subscription costs $25 per month. Once the child is a little older they may enjoy a BabbaCo subscription, which is targeted at kids ages 3-6. Each themed box will include 2-3 projects for kids and parents to do together.

Loot Crate and Knoshbox

A Loot Crate subscription comes packed with 6-8 “epic geek and gamer swag” each month. A subscription costs $19.97 per month, including shipping. There are tons of food subscription boxes on the market right now, but a Knoshbox subscription will be a great fit for your favorite foodie. Each Knoshbox costs $30 contains 4-6 gourmet food items.

Of course many subscription boxes would make great gifts and there are tons of subscription boxes from which to choose! Another fab box not mentioned above but included in our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide is the For the Makers box, which costs $29 and for which you will receive all of the materials necessary to make 4 DIY projects.
