The Rundown: Rare Barnes & Noble Coupon, Cheap Wine, Cheap Boots & More

The Rundown: Shopping Cheat Sheet

Aside from seeing Idina Menzel in concert, this past weekend I spent a lot of time trying to learn CSS to work out some of the kinks in this new site design. When I first launched this site I didn’t know a thing about web design and now I know my way around pretty well but CSS still confounds me. Whenever I’m approached with a CSS issue I feel a bit like I did as a teenager anytime I had to solve an equation in trigonometry. Thus, I studied quite a few tutorials and asked for help on message boards and this site is close to being finished. (I think.)

Next time I really should:

  1. Not start an impromptu site design at 11 p.m. on a Thursday
  2. Hire a professional

Here’s a quick rundown of some of my favorite deals that are available today. Happy shopping!

It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere!

Club W Discount

Last week I wrote a Club W review, sharing how much my husband and I love this service that delivers three new bottles of wine direct to our door each month. While I shared how you could save $13 off your first delivery (essentially a free bottle of wine), here’s an even better deal from Gilt City: Get your first Club W box for $25… including shipping! Normally you’d pay $45 per month ($39 for the wine + $6 shipping), so this $20 savings is a great way to see if Club W might be a good fit for you.

Keep in mind that you will likely need to cancel after receiving your first box as Club W is a subscription wine club. You can also skip months where there is no wine that interests you.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring…

Colorful Rain Boots on Sale

I don’t know what September showers bring, but there’s no doubt that rain boots are a great thing to have on hand in the fall! Right now you can grab a pair of colorful rain boots for less at Jane as they have a selection of boots on sale for just $21.99 each. Colors and sizes are limited, but you might get lucky and snag a fab deal!

Give a Little, Get a Little

We included Gyft in our 2014 Holiday Gift Guide as a fab gift for college kids. Basically it’s an app that lets you send gift cards electronically. They just announced a fab promotion where for every $50 in electronic Kohl’s gift cards purchased you will receive $5 worth of Gyft Points, which you will be able to use to purchase future gift cards!

If you were already planning on doing any back-to-school and/or back-to-work shopping at Kohl’s this is a fantastic opportunity to earn some extra credit. Just purchase a gift card and then use that to pay at Kohl’s!

The Rundown: Amy Schumer’s Nail Polish, $7 Fitness Tanks & More

The Rundown: Shopping Cheat Sheet

Late last night I came onto the site to fix something that had been bothering me… and ended up redesigning the entire site. I’m still working out some kinks and trying to figure out a few things since this is a new theme, so thank goodness it’s the weekend. I’m hoping to get everything completely up to snuff over the next couple of days!

In the meanwhile, if you happen to notice anything that looks completely crazy please let me know.

I’m really not sure why I thought that was the best thing to do last night as I hadn’t really intended on redesigning the site until next year and I’m now basically running on no sleep. Oh well, TGIF!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

16 Stores Where You Should Never Pay Full Price

I’ve been blogging a long time, relatively speaking, and in that time the retail landscape has changed quite a bit. It used to be that stores offering coupons was a rare thing, which made writing about sales and coupons at some of my favorite stores pretty exciting. Things changed during the recession, however, when stores realized that the way to bring in shoppers was to offer more coupons and more sales and now some stores seem to be stuck in a permanent sale cycle. The sales are so frequent, in fact, that there are quite a few stores where you should never pay full price.

By never I mean absolutely never unless you are absolutely desperate… and even then I would wait a day if at all possible because coupons and sales are that frequent from these stores.

If you’re planning on doing some shopping anytime soon, keep in mind that these are the stores where you should never pay full price.

16 Stores Where You Should Never Pay Full Price | ShopGirlDaily.com

Avenue (plus size)

The quality at Avenue is pretty average but the prices tend to be high. Luckily they counter those prices with frequent coupons and sales.

Banana Republic

Banana Republic was one of only two brands in the Gap family (the other being Athleta) that didn’t offer frequent coupons, but that is no longer the case. A 40% discount at Banana Republic used to be something to get excited about, but now it is par for the course.

The Rundown: Shopping Cheat Sheet

Sorry for the lack of posting this week. Summers are so slow and we’ve had a few visitors swing into town so I’ve been taking things easy and trying to enjoy the fleeting Chicago summer as much as possible. Oh yeah, and I’ve been taking care of the car repairs that just won’t end. I might be one of the few people who loves having a car in the city but not when dealing with issues like these. Where is the car fairy when you need one?!

I can’t believe the month of July comes to an end next week! I hope you all get an opportunity to enjoy this last weekend of the month. Next weekend it’ll officially be August and the countdown to the end of summer will be on… How’s that for depressing?

Happy weekend, everyone. Enjoy the sun and the shopping!

I love you more than biscuits and gravy

There are few breakfast dishes I love more than biscuits and gravy and I have to stop myself from ordering it every time I see it on a menu. Biscuits and gravy, two eggs over medium, a side of grits, and a never-ending pot of coffee? That’s my ideal breakfast that I get once in a blue moon (aka whenever I happen to make it down south). Anyhow, love the sign above? You can grab it as a FREE printable from Brickyard Buffalo in either black or gold print.

Good (Cheap) Read

The Good Girl
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica is a highly-rated thriller that was released last summer. Amazon has had it marked down to $2.99 for Kindle all week. With more than 1,200 reviews, this book is averaging 4.5 stars. I picked it up earlier this week and can’t wait to dig in!

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia’s mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

Note: It’s marked down to $2.99 for Nook, too!
