Product Review: Maggies The Original Fashion Magnet

maggies the original fashion magnet

Although the two little balls and rings above don’t appear to be much, they are fabulous little contraptions from Maggies The Original Fashion Magnet! “Maggies are super powerful fashion magnets designed to securely fasten your fabrics together without pins or knots.” And let me tell you, they certainly do!

Maggies are powerful little American-made fashion magnets designed to hold several layers of your favorite fabrics together. Hiding behind the scenes and under the seams, Maggies allow you to wear your scarves, shawls or sarongs in ways only fashionistas dream about. Just snap together an outfit out of a shawl, scarf or sarong and head out the door. You’ll go from flat to flattering in seconds!

So I did. Although I wasn’t about to leave the house in just a sarong, as it’s cold here! So I experimented by attempting to make a blouse (or, as close to it as I could) with my own scarf!

Disregard my messy room….

Not too shabby I think! Although I won’t quit my day job to become a fashion designer just yet. :) But I digress.

Here’s what I thought about Maggies!

Pros:

  • The magnets are really powerful. Once they were attached it was a pain to pull them apart. That’s a good thing for holding the fabrics in place!
  • The magnets didn’t damage the fabric. I didn’t see any dents or creases when I removed them.
  • They held! I only wore this for the photo, but I had constructed it downstairs and ran upstairs to take a picture and it held up!

Con:

  • The magnets are really powerful. Although also a pro, they were hard for me to initially pull apart. This isn’t a major con, it just took a good pull and trying not to drop the little ball down the sink drain! :)

All in all, I can’t wait to try Maggies The Original Fashion Magnet again when the weather warms up so I can actually wear what I create!

Would you consider using a fashion magnet instead of safety pins? I can’t recommend these enough!

Product Review: CashMiracle Sweater from Dressbarn

cashmiracle sweater dressbarn

I’ve always loved cashmere. Who doesn’t, right?! But cashmere can be so expensive! Welcome CashMiracle! CashMiracle is just as it claims, “super-soft, seriously colorful, wonderfully warm, comfy, cozy…you’ll swear it’s the real thing!” Well played DressBarn, well played!

cashmiracle sweater dressbarn

As you can see, I got the fuchsia color and I’m smitten with it. The color is to die for. Available in crew neck, turtleneck, V neck, cardigan, and shell. WANT. (Excuse my messy bed…).

Another positive? The price. For $32 it’s hard to find a cashmere sweater that beats that price!

I’ve worn the sweater twice so far and it has held up really well. The first time I wore it to work and it was totally appropriate. The second was to Thanksgiving. I actually paired it with a purplish necklace to wear to work and a scarf on Thanksgiving and it looked fab with both! I even washed it on cold. Shhh, don’t tell. It wasn’t until I was doing this post that I noticed it said handwash! Eek! It is still in tact and still super soft! Phew! (Not that I recommend not following washing instructions, that’s just an aside).

The only downside would be the fit. I normally wear a medium and this fit large. I’m actually okay with the fit as I’m not a huge fan of tight clothing, so I didn’t mind too much. Just be aware if you do like a tighter fit to possibly size down. :)

And, with the holidays right around the corner why not buy two! For a limited time all CashMiracle Sweaters are buy 1 get one 50% off! This means you can buy one CashMiracle sweater for a gift and get another one for half price for you! Tis the season, right?! ;)

I must give the boyfriend cardigan a try. It looks dreamy.

CashMiracle. The name says it all. The feel of cashmere at a miracle price. LOVE.

dressbarn Coupon: Today only – December 9, 2013 – you can get 25% off your entire purchase with code “GM13″. Combine this coupon with the Cashmiracle buy 1 get 1 50% off, and you’ll be able to pick up two sweaters for just $36!

Product Review: Nudwear

It’s amazing how things work out perfectly sometimes. For example, I went to a wedding over the weekend and was stressing over a bra to wear with my dress. It was a V cut, but every strapless I tried on showed through. Then, I received my Nud Bra from Nudwear and my problem was instantly solved!

Nudwear was created by two friends that realized that “the seamless lingerie market left much to be desired, which led us to believe that other women must be facing the same challenge. Our mission grew beyond finding what to wear underneath our wedding dresses to creating clever seamless yet comfortable lingerie. Nudwear.com was born!” LOVE!

The Nud Bra is:

Our signature strapless backless adhesive gel bra easily sticks on to give you the freedom to wear any outfit with confidence. Go backless, strapless or drape yourself in silk, satin our lace, the Nud Bra is invisible under any outfit making it the most versatile bra ever!

- Extra firm stick. Sweat and dance resistant

- No pinching, binding, chafing and discomfort

- Adjustable cleavage effect

- Moulds to your curves for a natural look and feel

- Light to medium support

- Made from 100% clear soft silicone gel

- Wear up to 100 times

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t have high hopes. I once got a stick on bra from Kohl’s and it lasted 2.2 seconds before it peeled off. So I was expecting this to be the same. Boy, was I wrong!

As I had every intention of wearing it to the wedding, I decided to try wearing it a few days prior, on the off chance it didn’t work then I wouldn’t be scrounging around the day of looking for alternatives. I wore a super cute shirt that required a strapless bra out to dinner with my best friends. I’ve been friends with these girls for ages, and they will tell  you like it is, so I knew if things were out of place, I’d hear about it. :) Within 10 minutes of being there they asked me what bra I was wearing so they could get one, because they were really impressed with it. Score!

Now, on to the true test- is it sweat proof…Yes! The wedding this past weekend was all outside. It was 90 degrees in Maryland and this sucker stayed on pretty much the whole time. I was honestly shocked! There were a few times where I did have to mess with the sides a little to get them back to sticking in place, but I was sweating profusely, as it was HOT, so the fact that it stayed on at all was a huge feat!

I did kind of have to play around with it a bit. The idea of the Nud Bra is that you hook it together to add as little or as much cleavage as desired. Since my dress was low cut I ended up not even hooking them. I just sort of stuck them on and went on my way and I was still really pleased with how well they supported.

Now, I will tell you, I don’t have a huge chest, so I don’t need a lot of support, so that was beneficial. The Nud Bra says it provides light to medium support, so for me it was perfect.

What’s awesome too is they peel right off and you just wash them with soap and water and you’re good to go for another 99 uses. Fantastic!

I finally found a strapless bra that I love. Who would have thought?!

If you’d love to try Nudwear, you can use the coupon code “25OFF” for 25% off a purchase of $100 or more! Fab!

Have you ever tried an adhesive bra? If so, what did you think of it?

Product Review: Unmentionably Cheeky

I don’t know about you, but I love getting things in the mail. I’m also incredibly lazy and hate doing laundry, so a subscription service where you can get underwear delivered right in the mail is my cup of tea! Unmentionably Cheeky is run by husband and wife duo Richard and Melody. “She makes sure each pair of panties looks lovely (he confirms this) and feels fantastic; he sees to it that customers enjoy a new shipment each and every month, in the privacy and convenience of their own home.” They sound like a fab pair, don’t you think?!

When my UM Cheeky package arrived it was discreetly wrapped in purple shiny packing. Shiny. My favorite color.

unmentionably cheeky

See, no fear of your neighbors knowing you are getting underwear delivered. ;)

When I unwrapped my package I was honestly surprised at how expensive these looked! For $8 for three pairs I’m not really sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t this. So color me thrilled!

UM Cheeky

As you can see, I received everything as advertised! A fun pair, a  flirty one, and one  feminine. LOVE! You also receive a postcard to send to a friend to let them know about Unmentionably Cheeky.

I have to say that it’s hard to pick a favorite! I really really like the pink and black pair, as the lace accent is just so feminine! Megan tested, husband approved.

I also think Unmentionably Cheeky would be a great gift idea for a bride to be! My girlfriend just had her bachelorette party and we all brought a piece of lingerie. It would have been fab to be able to present her with these!

So in a nutshell, $8 (including shipping!) for 3 pairs of high quality underwear delivered right to my doorstep each month? I’m sold. Hook, line and sinker!

Be sure to use the code SUMMER to sign up! You won’t be sorry!

Product Review: ThredUp

I’m sure you’ve heard of ThredUp by now. If not, you should. Basically, it’s an online consignment store. Here’s how it works.

thredup

In a nutshell, you browse their selection of women’s, girls and boys clothing, choose what you want, and add it to your cart. Easy as pie! With each purchase they send you a bag to send your own clothes back in, if you so choose. Once you send them your clothes, they go through and assign a value to the bag. From there you can either cash out or use that money as store credit.

I was really intrigued by ThredUp for a few reasons. One, I have entirely too many clothes which I hate to part with because some are nice and still have tags on them! There is a consignment shop near me, but it would require me to drive a distance, wait while they sort through everything and then hope the stuff sells. With ThredUp, they pay you up front. I like that. And two, I’m a fan of thrift shopping, so this seemed like a total winner in my book.

As previously mentioned, there are many options, even for boys and girls! I know a lot of my friends with kids complain that their children will wear an outfit once or twice and then grow out of it. I think ThredUp would be fabulous for them!

I tackled ThredUp from all the angles- purchasing, returning and selling!

Returns

The first shirt I ordered was way too small. Since clothing sizes totally vary, a medium in one brand isn’t a medium in another. I usually try on before purchasing, so this was new for me. The medium that I ordered was extremely tight. ThredUp was great about letting me return it and I got a prompt refund! Score!

Purchasing

What I’ve noticed about ThredUp is that it is kind of difficult to navigate. Granted, you have categories, such as Women’s blouses, pants, etc. and can choose color, but I think a search option would be really helpful. I was originally looking for a mint green cardigan, as that’s my current color crush. However, it took me too long to search through all the sweaters that I gave up on looking. Also, I’m not sure if some of the clothes they get are “current” or outlet. For example, I frequent LOFT, yet when you choose to view the LOFT items, I didn’t recognized anything from the store. Although I guess most people are getting rid of “older” or past season clothes, so I guess that makes sense. :)

Selling

They send a bag with each order, so I said what the heck and went ahead and stuffed it. I had a lot of stuff with tags still on! The brands I sent in were LOFT, Express and Old Navy. I was kind of surprised that, with the amount of stuff I returned (I filled the bag!) that I only got $13.49. I guess I was hoping for more, as you’ll notice on the site that people are getting $40-$50 for some of their bags.

I ended up picking up this robe and I simply love it!

ThredUp robe

The best part? I saved $73.01 off retail.

All in all, I think ThredUp is a great site. I’m excited to see it grow!

And if you’re eager to try ThredUp, then why not save 10% with promo code FF10. Does not apply to shipping, and cannot be applied with other promo codes.

Have you bought or sold anything with ThredUp yet? And how do you feel about thrift shopping online? I’d love to hear what you have to say!

Product Review: Borrowed Closet

My husband and I work different hours and it is often difficult for us to see each other each day, as it’s usually in passing or for a few hours before bed. However, we’ve made it a point to schedule monthly date nights, where it’s just the two of us doing whatever the other pleases. This past date night it was his call and we attended an event with Anthony Bourdain! EEE!

Since it was something awesome and special, of course I needed a great outfit. The tricky part is that I’ve vowed to make this month “no spending November”, which meant that I couldn’t shop til I dropped. Sigh. So when I was approached to review items of my choice from Borrowed Closet I knew this was a sign from above. :)

What is Borrowed Closet you ask? As their website states, “Borrowed Closet is like Netflix for fashionistas!” LOVE.

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! Basically, for $29.95 per month, you get 100 credits to shop around with. You can apply these credits to clothing, accessories or handbags, or all three, as I did!

borrowed closet

Here’s some facts:

How much does shipping cost?

You will be charged $5.95 per month with your membership fee for standard shipping costs.  This includes one shipment to you per month and one complementary return shipment per month.  We will provide a return shipping envelope and label so that return shipping is hassle free.  If you request multiple shipments within a month, you will be charged $5.95 for each additional shipment to you and each additional return shipment back to us.  To request an additional return shipping label, please send us a message through the Contact Us section and we will email it to you immediately.

Do I have to rent all 100 credits worth of items at once?

No, you may rent items individually or together. Your reserved items will not be sent until you click “Ship Items!” on the My Account page.  However, the standard shipping cost included in your monthly membership fee only includes one shipment to you and one shipment back to us, so please note that you will be charged an additional $5.95 for each additional shipment to you requested and each additional return shipping label requested per month.  If you do not use your monthly complementary shipment, it will not carry over to the next month.

How do I rent from Borrowed Closet?

1.  Sign-up: Create an account and sign up for membership by filling out your Billing and Shipping information in the “My Account” section. You must register and sign up for membership with Borrowed Closet before renting.

2.  Rent: Each item will be worth a certain amount of credits. You may rent 100 credits worth of items at a time.  Enjoy each item as long as you’d like and ship them back to us at any time.  You are allowed one shipment per month to you and will be provided with one prepaid return shipping label.  If you elect to make multiple shipments per month, you will be charged additional shipping charges.

3.  Receive: Once you choose your rentals, you can view your reserved items in “Reserved Rentals” of the My Account page. Your items will not be shipped until you select “Ship Items” on the My Account page. You will receive your package of rentals for the month at your doorstep via FedEx, UPS or USPS. Please expect 3 to 7 days for delivery.

4.  Return: You may return your items individually or together at any time.  Simply send the rentals back to us in the prepaid, pre-addressed return envelope into any United States Postal Service blue mailbox. We’ll take care of the dry-cleaning.  When we receive your returned items, we’ll credit you back the appropriate number of points and you can make new selections.

They take care of dry-cleaning and sterilization and even provide you with a return shipping envelope. It’s a piece of cake! Another thing about Borrowed Closet that I love is, if you are totally smitten with the item(s) and can’t bring yourself to return them, you do have the option of purchasing said item. The purchase price is listed for each item.

I chose the hi-low halter dress, as I’ve been dying to try the high-low style without breaking the bank. I thought this was a great way to do so! Here is what I chose, and how many credits each were worth.

I was able to rent a whole outfit!

Borrowed Closet

And, when finished, I just packaged everything up and sent it on it’s way!

I’d totally recommend Borrowed Closet to anyone for the ease of rentals and returns, the high quality of the items rented and the awesomeness of being able to test out an outfit prior to committing! Seriously, had I purchased all these items separately, they would have equaled way more than $29.95.

Have you tried Borrowed Closet? No? You must!

Product Review: Bracelets by Cutey

Charm bracelets are all the rage these days. I see them everywhere! And I drool each time! So, when I had the opportunity to review three charm bracelets from Cutey, I jumped at the chance.

Cutey is a UK based business that “was founded in 2011 to provide a quality range of customisable jewellery. Our initial range is designed as an everyday accessory that can be used at any time.” Now, don’t be scared at the conversion rate when logging into their site, as they have three options for currency- USD, GBP, or EUR. Each charm bracelet is roughly $20.09 to $23.19, with a fixed flat rate for shipping of $2.01. Not too shabby! You can get a great charm bracelet for $25!

I received the Hypnos (bottom), Typhon (middle), and the Momus (top) bracelets.

Each bracelet has a story:

Unusual, satirical and questioning, Momus represents the best in human endeavour. With an air of calm that only vintage styling can express, Momus is distinctly different. Select a bell or a tower – a joyful sound or a place of safety – as your central image. An heirloom in waiting…

Momus was my favorite, as the colors were perfect and the tower charm totally reminded me of London, which is my favorite place in the world.

When I first got the bracelets, I had one heck of a time trying to figure out how to open the clasp. I had to get my husband to help me. That concerned me because he leaves for work before I do, so if I wanted to wear them I wanted to be able to put them on without help. After messing with it for a bit I was able to figure it out. I also noticed the weight of these bracelets. Not to be mean, but for $20, I didn’t really expect much, you know? I thought it may have that “costume jewelry” feel, but I was actually surprised that it felt sturdy.

One of my biggest gripes is that these aren’t customizable, such as you can’t pick and choose what goes on your bracelet. I understand that other brands are, I get that. But, such as with Hypnos, I liked it, but the whole lock and butterfly looking things weren’t really my cup of tea. Still, the rhinestone beads were pretty, but the charms just were not what I would have chosen. Upon further messing with these bracelets, I did realize that they can be removed. That, or I broke mine. Either way, I was able to twist the charms and get them off and put others on if I wanted to. So, that made me happy. Also, there is a charm on there with the Cutey logo. I get that is their branding, but it’s just not my thing. Sorry! Also, I did think that some of the bracelets were cluttered, but once I was able to get some charms off, I was good to go.

I wore Hypnos all day to work and then out shopping later. I’m by no means dainty, so it was able to withstand my typing, wacking it on the desk (not intentionally of course!) and holding piles of clothes. It didn’t snag my clothing, which was also a bonus. Another thing, if you have tiny wrists, these bracelets are for you. They fit 18cm wrists. Mine fit great, but I have the wrists of a 5 year old….

All in all, I liked the bracelets. And for $20 something dollars as compared to hundreds, I’m sold. Want to connect wtih Cutey? Check out thier twitter and facebook pages.

What do you think of charm bracelets? Love them or hate them? And do you have a Cutey bracelet? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

This product was sent to me to review by Cutey. All of the above is my honest opinion.
