A lot of times – most of the time – subscription boxes turn out exactly how I expected. That’s neither a good nor bad thing, but some boxes I know aren’t going to be my thing before I open them up. I have to admit that Wantable took me by surprise. I really wasn’t expecting to like the box as much as I did.
Wantable is a makeup subscription box, although they also have a jewelry option. There are two subscription options for the Wantable makeup box. You can receive one box for $40, or subscribe for $36 per month. I chose to go with the $40 option so that I could get a feel for the box without any of the commitment. What makes Wantable different from some of the other beauty boxes on the market is that they only send full-size products. When you register for Wantable you will take a fairly lengthy survey, so they can determine which products would be best to send. They were asking things as specific as whether you prefer lip gloss to lip stick, which is nice because I definitely prefer lip gloss! Their goal is to send you new products that you’ll want and use.
Here’s what I received in my Wantable makeup box:
Mia Bellezza Glow Powder in Stardust ($18.50 retail value) – I’d never heard of this brand before, but I am really excited about this product! The powder is a beautiful color that I think is going to look fabulous this summer! (I left the product as I received it, so you can see a bit of the powder broke off during shipping.)
Color Club Nail Polish in Earthy Angel ($8 at Amazon) – Apparently this color is part of Color Club’s Fall 2011 collection, but that’s of no consequence to me. I LOVE this color and will be painting my nails with this tonight. It’s a great neutral shade.
Benecos Baked Eye Shadow in Amazing ($12.99 retail value) – I don’t normally do blue eye shadow, but I’m going to give this one a try. I might try it as an eye liner to add a bit of pop to an otherwise neutral eye as a way to work my way into it.
Cargo Lip Gloss in Tokyo ($14 retail value) – I haven’t tried this lip gloss yet, and while the color is definitely a little brighter than I’d usually go for I’m hoping that since it’s a gloss it doesn’t go on QUITE so hot pink.
Lavera Soft Eyeliner in Brown ($15.20 retail value) – I feel like a bit of a broken record espousing my love for eye liner, but I’m excited to have a new one for my collection! I actually don’t own any brown eye liner, so I’m excited to use this to create a softer eye look than I normally go for.
Paula Dorf Mascara in Licorice ($21 retail value) – Like eye liner, I never complain about receiving new mascara. I’ve never tried Paula Dorf products before, and I’m excited to give this one a go!
Since Wantable sent what could really be an entirely new makeup routine, I feel like I should try all of these things together tomorrow… though that could be a bit much. The bright lip gloss and the blue eye shadow may not make the best impression at work. 😉
That said, I really thought the Wantable Makeup Box was awesome! I loved receiving these products and I will definitely try every last item in the box. I paid $40, but the full retail value of my box was $89.69. Not bad!
Another thing I want to briefly touch on is the fact that Wantable sent a sheet including the retail value of each of the items in the box. You can see that sheet in the video below, but I forgot to take a photo of it. I’m not naming names, but sometimes companies are prone to exaggerating the retail value of items in an attempt to make a box seem like it has a higher retail value. Wantable didn’t do this at all, which I appreciate. The value to the products I linked above matches EXACTLY to the values provided by Wantable. Truth goes a long way, in my opinion.
Truth time: While I really loved this box, I will not be subscribing. I would love to receive a new box like this every month, but my budget doesn’t allow me to spend $36 per month on makeup … in addition to all of the other boxes I purchase! If I had the extra cash or if I REALLY loved makeup I would be all over this box. As it is, I may make it a special treat to myself on occasion … at least until I hit the lottery or find a money tree!
