We’ve all heard the phrase “that’s so your color,” but discovering the right color palette for your complexion can really transform the way you dress. You may never have thought about how your outfit compliments your skin tone but once you know the colors which are right for you, it can open up a whole new range of wardrobe possibilities.

The cheat colors

The first thing to remember is that there are three colors which will suit all skin tones. These are navy, purple and teal and can be your failsafe options. That’s why a good pair of dark jeans, for example, will suit almost anyone.

If you have a light tone

Light tones are usually characterized by translucent skin, grey or blue eyes, and silver or blonde hair.

If this sounds like you then you should opt for cool, pastel colors, such as aqua, pink and lilac rather than darker tones which can often be too overpowering for a light complexion.

If you have a dark tone

Dark tones can often be identified by dark or brunette hair, brown eyes, and golden skin. With this coloring you can get away with more vibrant shades if you choose. Dark skin tones in particular are very much enhanced by a splash of bold color.

Of course, skin tones don’t just fall into light and dark. There’s a whole range for you to fall into such as a warm tone, a cool tone or a soft tone.
