Adult Coloring Books for Fun and Stress Relief |

Adult coloring books have really been gaining traction lately because not only is coloring fun, but coloring is also considered a stress-relieving activity. According to this article from the Huffington Post, “coloring has a de-stressing effect because when we focus on a particular activity, we focus on it and not on our worries.”

I’m not particularly good at relaxing, so I was excited to try out The Mandala Coloring Book. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and I really like it because it gives me a way to multi-task while watching TV. ;) I am obviously TERRIBLE at just doing one thing at a time, so the fact that I can now create something pretty while vegging out is pretty awesome… however, I’m aware that the stress relieving benefits would probably be greater if I just devoted a few minutes a day to my coloring. Alas. At least I’m having fun!

I used to love coloring as a kid, so I love that adult coloring books are now readily available. The coloring books themselves tend to be much larger than those designed for children and the designs are more intricate. Most books tend to cost $12 or less, which makes this a fairly affordable hobby.

Adult coloring books have become so popular lately that some books are making it onto best sellers’ lists! Interested in grabbing an adult coloring book? Here are some gorgeous best-selling adult coloring books that are currently on the market:

Color Crush: An Adult Coloring Book for the Modern Girl

This coloring book, Color Crush: An Adult Coloring Book for the Modern Girl, was just released and it looks fantastic! “It combines fun, motivational sayings with bold and trendy patterns. The book features your favorite sayings and phrases including “Don’t forget to be awesome”, “She believed she could, so she did”, “Everyday I’m hustlin”, “Do more of what makes you happy” and so many more.”

Crayola Twistables Colored Pencils

If your’e curious about what to use to fill in your adult coloring books, I highly recommend checking out the Crayola Twistables Colored Pencils! I wasn’t sure what to pick up when I went to the store. I wanted colored pencils but didn’t want to get a sharpener, so these seemed like the perfect compromise. There aren’t as many colors as you can get with traditional packs of colored pencils though but that hasn’t really been a problem for me.

  1. I have never heard of this before, what a great idea! I try to take a bath each night to destress with lavendar oil. Also working out helps me destress a lot although I don’t get to do it as much as I would like. Hot bath, glass of wine and a book really does the trick after a busy stressful day!

  2. I have a coloring book that I kept for the youngsters that visit up, but Truly they never get to touch it. It’s all me:)

  3. I own my own business, so finding a way to destress has been a must lately. This post is kind of coincidental, as I was considering getting into adult coloring books as a new way to manage my stress. Right now, I’ve found crossword puzzles and exercise help me manage .

  4. I Either play with my daughters (5 and 2) or after they go to bed I watch the bachelorette or Friends! Yep on season 9 of Friends, watching for the first time.

  5. I like to workout to de-stress, I find it really turns my mood around. If I need a quick de-stress, taking a moment to take 10 deep breaths helps as well.

  6. I would love to win one of these! 🙂 I de-stress by taking a bubble bath, shaving my legs, and then painting my nails while reading a magazine!

  7. What a good idea! I almost want to keep one at work for conference calls. I need some stress free doodling in my life

  8. I go for “convertible therapy” — driving in a car with the top down really takes stress away and lightens my mood. A coloring book might be a good alternative when weather conditions are not conducive to going “topless.”

  9. I can honestly say I don’t know what I do to de-stress. I need to get back into the gym, but… you know how that goes. 🙂

  10. I currently do puzzles (logic, mazes, sudoku, etc) to destress. Addting coloring would be great especially with the cool “adult” options you shared.

  11. To de-stress I love to talk with my husband. Honestly, hearing him just chat with me about the tough day makes me feel relaxed. Years ago before I got married drawing was my way of de-stressing, would love to include that again, whenever hubby is out of town.

  12. To distress I like to work out and I also like to enjoy a nice, relaxing bath (Lush bath bombs included!).

  13. I doodle! Coloring books are my go-to hurricane day activity (I live in Florida) – but I’d never seen adult ones, this is much better!
