Dang, you guys. Yesterday was our SEVEN year birthday and it completely slipped my mind. Seven years means this is officially the longest job I’ve ever had and the most time I’ve ever spent in one place. That’s kind of crazy.

Each year I write a birthday post and the image is always my dessert obsession of the year. This past year, however, has been completely and totally fueled by coffee. Waaaaay too much coffee… but I don’t regret a thing. Without coffee I’m not sure I would have made it through the year. I absolutely love that my job gives me the flexibility to be home with my son and I feel like I’m living the best of both worlds. I do a job that I love and my office mate is the little guy I love more than anything in the world. But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. My son is the boss around here and when he needs attention (which is more often than not) I wind up working late into the night trying to get things done once he has gone to bed. Hence my need for coffee. And more coffee.

I know I’ve been absent around here even more than usual lately though and the reason is two-fold:

  1. This site is seven years old (!) and only within the past six months or so have I learned the importance of cleaning up old content and deleting content that’s no longer relevant. As such, I have been systematically going through and deciding the best course of action for every old post. Sometimes this seems like a futile task since I have 3,000+ posts to comb through but the fact of the matter is that this matters to Google and without some updating this site will become obsolete in their eyes… which pretty much means it’s obsolete everywhere. I REALLY wish I’d been doing this over the years because this is one heckuva project.
  2. Speaking of projects, if you know me as a blogger in real life than you probably know that for years I have been talking about creating some sort of website to help other bloggers get off the ground, especially in terms of monetizing their blogs. This has always been such a passion of mine that a long time ago I wrote a little guide to blog monetization right here! Well, after years of all talk and no action, I finally decided to make this new site a reality and my goal is to launch Oh, She Blogs! in mid-April. I want the site to be fully functional with all of the information a new (or old) blogger would need to start making money from their blog, which means that in addition to, and taking care of my son, that I am also writing up a storm and bringing everything together over there (site design, social media, etc.). It doesn’t feel like work because I love that I’m finally doing what I’ve talked about for so long but there are only so many hours in a day and right now I wish I could clone myself. Or have a year’s supply of coffee show up on my doorstep. 😉

I’m really excited about the new site and can’t wait for you all to see it. Well, those of you that are interested in the topic of blogging, anyhow. 😉

I’m also excited about what’s going on around here. Cleaning up old posts has given me lots of inspiration for new posts. I’ve been experimenting with writing more comprehensive and in-depth posts, too, which I hope adds a little more meat to this site. I’m also trying to work more “sale” posts back into the content because I know that was the mainstay of this site for so long.

2015 was a rough year for me as I was trying to work out some semblance of a balance between working, taking care of my son, spending time with my husband, and sleeping. I was also dealing with depression and family health issues. 2016, though? I’m feeling great and am so excited about what lies ahead not only for but also for Oh, She Blogs!

Thanks so much to all of you that continue to read and have stuck by us through myriad changes over the past year or so. Please know how much it means to me when you leave a comment, or pop up on social media. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to do my dream job.

Until next year…
