As I mentioned when we bought our new house, it’s a real fixer-upper. The bones of the house are great and many rooms just need a good coat of paint (like my son’s lime green bedroom), but the one room that needs the most work is our kitchen. It’s going to be a gut redo, but who knows when we will actually be able to afford the type of work that it needs. (We’re talking tearing out a wall, all new cabinets, new flooring, painting… the absolute works.) Currently, we have a very retro kitchen, but not necessarily retro in a good way. We have lime green countertops and the oddest cabinets that anyone has ever seen. The tile on the floor is also a brown and gold plaid, for lack of a better explanation. It’s, um, interesting, to say the least.
Whenever we get around to the kitchen renovations – and we are years from that point since we also have to do things like re-do a bathroom and a half bath, tear out and replace a concrete patio and pergola, install fencing… and the list goes on – it’s going to cost an arm and a leg and we probably won’t have any additional funds to “decorate.” As a compromise, I’ve already decided that our future kitchen will have some vintage kitchen decor so that I can buy some items now that will fit in our old-timey kitchen and will fit later in our modern retro kitchen.
Below you’ll find 18 of my favorite retro kitchen items, but you can also check out a bunch more on my page of Amazon Picks.
Chances are, retro kitchen accessories and decor will be popular as long as there are kitchens. There are hundreds of items to choose from, from appliances (both big and small) to cookware and dinnerware to wall decor to almost everything in between. You name it, you can probably find it!
