True story: A few weeks ago I put on my newest pair of metallic gold Sperry Top-Siders for the first time and made a weird personal decision. “I’m going to be the person that always wears metallic shoes in the summer,” I thought to myself, feeling kind of proud that I would have a “thing.” For the past five years or so I’ve been a weird devotee of metallic footwear in the summer, so it’s kind of bizarre that I had this epiphany, but it was what it was.
Shortly thereafter – probably that same day – I was browsing a celebrity gossip website when I noticed that everyone was wearing metallic sandals and metallic shoes. Even though I wasn’t trying to start a trend or be at the forefront of any trends, I patted myself on the back a bit for actually being trendy for once and then began searching for a new pair of metallic sandals. (It just goes to show: If you wear the same styles long enough they’ll eventually come back into fashion!)
Which leads us here. Metallic shoes are everywhere this spring and I obviously couldn’t be happier. If you’re looking to add a pair or two or three to your shoe collection (it’s my personal opinion you can never have too much!), here are a few of my favorite pairs:
1. Tory Burch Savannah Wedge – $265 at Nordstrom
I don’t think ankle straps are particularly flattering on me, otherwise these beauties would already have a place in my closet! They’re amazingly dainty, and you’ll be able to wear them with everything from shorts to dresses!
2. Birkenstock Papillio Gizeh – $120 at Zappos.com
Raise your hand if you’re a little (or more than a little) surprised to see that Birkenstocks are making a come back? Honestly, I never thought I’d see the day. I still have my trusty pair that I wore throughout high school (believe it or not they still look brand new), but if I was going to get a new pair they would definitely be these metallic hot pink ones!
3. Glimmer is Served Sandal in Gold – $44.99 at ModCloth
As I was browsing shoes and writing this post I noticed that not only are metallic sandals huge, but metallic gladiator sandals and metallic Greek sandals (see #7) are everywhere.
As I mentioned yesterday, I recently picked up a pair of TKEES and I know I’m going to be wearing them non-stop this summer. You may be surprised that I opted for the non-metallic version but these were a close contender!
5. Callie Metallic Sandals – $98 at J.Crew
This pair of metallic sandals is practically perfect.
6. Matisse Marco Metallic Sandal – $98 at Urban Outfitters
I liked this combination of black and silver. It’s a little unexpected!
7. Metallic Wing Sandals – $168.52 at Farfetch.com
As I mentioned above, I was surprised by the number of gladiator sandals and Greek sandals I found. I actually found quite a few pairs of winged sandals and I’ve got to admit – I kind of love them!
8. McKim Leather Sandal – $88 at Lilly Pulitzer
I don’t have this specific pair, but I have a sandal that’s very similar to this one that I’ve worn probably the past five summers. Gold flip flops go with everything but I think the gold gives them an added glam factor.
9. Metallic Chevron Flip Flop – $17.50 at Charlotte Russe
This is what you get when you combine all of the trends into one shoe. Not that I’m complaining!
10. BCBGeneration Demee Sandal – $49 at Zappos.com
This metallic sandal can be worn by anyone, but I thought it would make a really pretty option for brides that are looking for a fun party sandal.
11. Voyager Metallic Sandals – $12.80 at Forever 21
This sandal is black and gold, and I like it just as much as the black and silver version above. This one costs approximately 85% less though, which puts it a step ahead in my book.
12. Sergio Rossi Flora Crystal-Encrusted Wrap Sandals – MEGA SPLURGE at SAKS
I’ve been seeing these sandals on all of the celebrities so I had to include it here. Isn’t it beautiful?

I have some fun news to share: I’m the new Budget Style Expert at About.com!! My first post went up today and it features 10 pairs of metallic shoes under $50. (I told you I had metallic footwear on the brain!) While I haven’t had time to personalize the home page yet, you can find the Budget Style page here.
